Akshaya's Story
Akshaya aged 35 years of Sargiguda, Titilagarh is a quadriplegic (cerebral palsy) patient by birth who lost his vision due to cataract. Afflicted by double ailments he depended on his wheelchair for movement. He also managed a petty shop and became a working member of his family.
The first contact with Service centre for the disabled in Orissa an organisation which provides comprehensive eye care services was one he will remember throughout his life. A consultation with the doctors and some tests later, he was advised cataract surgery. Counselling sessions with him and his family members helped to dissipate many of the misgivings the family had with regard to the surgery.
The surgery was successful and Akshaya has fully recovered. He now manages the affairs of his shop and his looking forward to further investments.
