Indian Sign Language Dictionary
“Service to all living beings in every possible way is one of the best means for achieving social prosperity, self prosperity, self fulfilment and spiritual joy”
Communication is the most common problem faced by persons with hearing impairment in their attempt to get education and employment. The development of the Indian Sign Language Dictionary is an earnest attempt to creat an option for the child to choose his mode of communication. The initiative of the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, India and the Christoffel Blindenmission, Germany has resulted in development of this dictionary. The dictionary will provide an opportunity for the hearing impaired in the country to improve their communication skills and also lead them towards their empowerment in Society.
A dictionary of signs is fundamental to deaf and hearing people connected for special reasons and in special ways because it offers a vocabulary base. Sign language is a living language, developing and evolving constantly, differing from country to country, from region to region and often has dialects. This dictionary will help to build bridge in this very beautiful, plastic and ever changing world of spatial and visual communication. – Rev. C. Garms, former Executive Director, CBM International, Germany.
