Solanki

Solanki's Story

Solanki had been physically impaired since birth. In spite of the inherent restrictions, he supported his family, consisting of his elder brother and parents. With his impairment, marriage was impossible for him. His petty shop that he started with very little investment barely gave him enough to feed him and his family. An income of Rs 30-40 per day was just enough for his family to survive. Coupled with this was the stigma associated with being a disabled person at odds with his economic situation.

CBM through its partner in Gujarat first supported him with a tricycle. While the intervention was small , it gave him the much needed mobility. He was able to stay for much longer hours and did not have to worry to leave his shop to return home. Solanki is a much more confident man now. He now has a pass which entitles him to free travel in buses anywhere in the state.Newer investments on his petty shop have yielded him an increase in profits and his disposable incomes.
